The European Commission has published its draft UK adequacy decision. If adopted, these decisions will mean that the free flow of personal data between the UK and EU will continue.
The draft decisions published today by the Commission will now be shared with the European Data Protection Board for a ‘non-binding opinion’, before being presented to EU member states for formal approval.
In the meantime, the ‘bridging mechanism’ will remain in place until 30 June or until the adequacy decisions come into effect, whichever is sooner
This is an important milestone to not only ensure seamless cross-border transfer of data in the EU but greater certainty in the GDPR framework.
